April 6th update - Recommended skins and Pk 7 climb

Submitted by admin on Wed, 04/06/2011 - 10:48

The final skin up the NW side of Peak 7 has full snow coverage, no hiking required. The snow is firm wind-scoured smooth to wind coral reef. The 500 ft. pitch getting to the Magic Gate favors 20 low-angle switch backs and good skinning technique on the smooth surface. Sorry, unless 50 Austrian Army members show up, we won't be able to bang in a deep skin track.

A 60 mm skin (assuming a 62-64 waist ski) is nice to have, a 50-55 mm skin for everything else on the course should be fastest. So if you have a choice of skins, take the 60 as a backup for the last climb and use with the 50' for everything else.
